Story Of The Wine Estate

Le Lauron, a dreamy provincial wine estate, nestled in the outskirts of the tiny village of caromb , which lies at the feet of Mount Ventoux, was built in the year 1632 as a typical Mas.

Built in 1632, "Le Lauron" is the farm of the nearby castle "Le Monfort" (first MAS after the bridge). Since the 17th century until 1970 grape pickers used to inhabit the place. Time is running peacefully in this region of France.

It was not until 1971 the castle owners (Le Monfort) decided to sell  "Le Lauron" to

Georges Toussaint, a famous french actor. Who bought the MAS in very bad condition for 500,000 francs (150,000 DM). He spent most of his life renovating the building and designing the garden as a center stage to re-enact plays. He gives "Le Lauron" an indescribable soul that impresses the visitors immediately.

He died in 1993 and subsequently so did his aged mother two months later. They left no heirs. During this period the current owners were looking for a property in Provence and accidentally came across finding Le Lauron. It was love at first sight: After a year of difficulties with notaries, heirs, etc.... They finally got themselves registered as the owners and made a promise to keep the soul of "Le Lauron" alive within them.

To start with they renovated the place only to find out that the existing fountain had not enough water especially during summer time. By the end of 1994, they had a 100 feet deep well dugout and to their happiness: there was clear spring water jutting out of the earth.

Le Lauron has been renovated twice in the last 20 years. The soul it carries since 1632 has always been respected, and this very fact makes the Mas a unique place, almost a piece of art. You live off a natural source water, which was found at a 100m depth. Whilst roaming through an enchanting garden you can hear the calming pitter and platter of water sources in every single corner. East, West, South offers tranquil places to either lie down, have a barbecue and sit quietly, or enjoy a refreshing glass of rosé with your loved ones. To the north you can take a stroll through the enchanting vineyards that belong to the estate.

Le Lauron has not only one main house, there is also a little adjoining guesthouse called "Le Petit Lauron", which could lodge the typical romantic couple. And in the midst of 33 plus olive trees you find the dream of every child - and adult: a mongolian Yurt!

Le Lauron offers such diversity and open spaces that a group of up to 10 people can easily enjoy moments of bliss together or moments of total calmness. It is as one wishes...

The family wishes everybody a pleasant stay and hope that you will also discover the peace, relaxation and pure bliss of "Le Lauron".
